Thailand, Off The Beaten Tack
Exploring the beautiful waters off South West Thailand in Spring 2019!
In January 2020 we are over the moon to say we will be returning to Thailand. Skipper Jimmy and 1st mate Carla will be yet again adventuring between the islands exploring the best that Thailand has to offer. With 3 seasons experience in sailing the islands we have a feeling this could be the best season yet.
Like Greece, Thailand is a very open nation to tourism and like Greece, Thailand has many hidden gems, away from the main tourist trail. We pride ourselves on getting 'off the beaten tack' and taking our guests to islands they wouldn't usually be able to explore.
We will have beach BBQs, find hidden lagoons, relax on idyllic beaches, snorkel, kayak and be seduced by the lush Thai islands coastal jungle and cliffs. You can choose to learn the ropes aboard our six berth traditional wooden catamaran or just sit back and enjoy the ride.
Our base in Ao Yon, is a true little hidden gem of a place, situated in the South East of Phuket. Well away from the hustle and bustle of the islands tourist area's it is a tranquil spot with sandy palm fringed beaches which you will often have completely to yourself. A perfect place to start and finish your voyage.
Phang Nga bay and Phi Phi Islands are situated in the strait of Malacca between the island of Phuket and the mainland of the Malay peninsula of southern Thailand. Since 1981, an extensive section of the bay has been protected as the Ao Phang Nga National Park. It is well renowned as one of the most beautiful bays that Thailand has to offer. It is famous for its gravity defying limestone formations. This area has over 40 breath taking islands for us to explore.
Ko Lanta Yai is the largest of 52 islands in an archipelago protected by the Mu Ko Lanta Marine National Park. This area has outstanding crystal waters, coral reefs and an abundance of marine life. With jungle leading down to the white sand beaches, caves and waterfalls to discover it really is a vision of paradise.
At OTBT we like to follow the winds as much as possible and have no fixed itineary. All we can guarentee is a start and finsih destination of Ao Yon in Phuket. The typical plan would be to head North to start with to get a good sailing angle for the rest of the week. The possible destinations for the weeks trip could include Koh Rang, Koh Phanak, Koh Pan Yi, Klong Raya rivers, Koh Roi, Koh Hong, Ton sai, Krabbi, Koh Dam, Phi Phi islands, Koh Lanta, Koh Ha Yai, Rok Nok and many more.
Ao Yon is our base for arrival and departures in Thailand
Our base - Ao Yon,
As we are associated with Siam sailing in Phuket they offer a transfer service to and from the airport making your travel just that little bit easier. This transfer costs roughly £10-£15 per person.
Book your flights too HKT airport (Phuket). From here you can take advantage of a transfer service provided by our local connections. This transfer costs roughly £10-£15 per person and will be paid directly to the driver when you arrive at the boat. Please note, flights are NOT included and you will need to book these yourself.
We run a 'kitty' system on board, and ask you to collect basic provisions at the start of the week. We have onboard cooking facilities for you to use but as much as possible will tend to have our fresh fish/prawns from local fisherman, delivered directly to our yacht which supports local communities. Our evening meals will tend to be at local restaurants.
Food and drink in Thailand is very reasonable. We would recommend you budget £15-£20 per day to eat out and a little more if you enjoy a few extra drinks.
